This is a comparison between 2 similar remotes and how they work for the 2017 Nvidia Shield. There are several that look like this, but they're NOT the same.Looking at the picture, on the left is the ILEBYGO MX3 remote and on the right is my older MX3 by YOUKONG. I actually thought these would behave the same but the ILEBYGO had the backlight that I wanted. Most of these remotes are in the $13.99 price range. I also have a Minix remote that cost about $34. The air mouse function of the Minix is smoother than the 2 in this review, but outside of that it doesn't have many functions that work with the Shield. On both MX3 versions the air mouse can work pretty well if you choose the right Nvidia USB port for the receiver. It's also worth noting that on both MX3 remotes the D-ring (arrow controls around the OK button) is a bit narrow and not raised enough to make it as easy to use as it could be. I wish it was higher or wider so it would be easier to hit with my thumb without also hitting the OK button. However, I found it easy to pop open the case on each MX3 and shim the D-ring up about 1mm with a couple bits of greeting card cardboard and now the feel is perfect. Now for the 2 main differences between these 2 remotes:First, the programming procedure for the programmable buttons is different on each unit, but one isn't necessarily easier than the other. However, once programmed, you have to click the TV button first in order to use the programmed buttons on the YouKong. You don't have to do this on the ILEBYGO where the programmed buttons operate seamlessly just like all the other buttons. I have now added my Yamaha's volume controls to the ILEBYGO (needed for 5.1 volume control) along with a DPL (Dolby pro logic) button and a Stop button for videos (taken from my Vizio TV remote). The Stop button is really handy for Kodi and other apps to stop movie, TV and audio programs.Second, you can use the mic on the ILEBYGO just like on the original Shield remote. It's the first button on the 2nd row. It's actually a "search" magnifying glass button but it activates the mic. On the YouKong, neither this button nor the actual Mic button will work with the Shield. So, here's the deal. If you just buy a remote that looks like the ILEBYGO Backlit MX3, it won't necessarily behave like it. Just look at the 2 remotes in my picture. Except for the colors they're about identical. With this remote, I no longer need my Logitech 400 keyboard, my Bluetooth mouse, my 5.1 receiver remote (usually), or my original Shield remote. I can turn the complete system (including the Shield) off with the remote's Power Button and turn it on by pressing any button.Works great for the Nvidia Shield TV but every so often (really, not a lot) it will disconnect from its receiver and just need the batteries removed and put back in. No big deal.Let me say first that the motion mouse is weird & can be very off -- but I don't honestly care about that.Buttons are good BUT if you haven't used it in a while you have to tap them twice (once to wake the unit and the second time for command) which is understandable. It just confused me at first. The keyboard on the back is fine and easy to use. The touchpad is a joke (too resessed to actually use - should have just left it off, but I honestly don't care). It worked perfectly out of the box (no drivers needed!!) And continues to work to this day. Works as I want it to and that's all I need.Perfect.using for home TV. the mouse is a bit sensitive. takes a bit of getting used to. the keyboard doesn't have the shift characters on the number keys, so can't enter passwords for streaming services with this keyboard. otherwise it's great. the programmable buttons are nice too. This remote is the best I've had to date. I've bought & returned so many defective remotes, I was getting very frustrated. this remote looks to have the same shape & size as many others, however the key springs are crisp & very responsive. the LED lighted keys make it easier to see & I like that the first red LED is temporary & only lasts through that first navigation, returning to the off position to save battery life. overall, an awesome remote. I would defiantly buy it again! The air mouse is pretty damn handyThis remote operates like most other remotes of similar design. In that regard, it gets 5 stars. However, there are a number of buttons that require several presses to register a click. This shouldn't be for a brand new remote control (it's in my possession/use for about 1 month). This issue doesn't apply to all buttons, just most notably the right arrow (right of the OK button). The OK button seems to suffer from this a bit as well but not nearly as bad. This is a great remote I use it on a media center PC and it's perfect for that. The only downside is the 300mah battery you'll constantly be charging it. I like the remote though so I bought some 1500mah batteriesExtremely disappointed when I took off the protective plastic and saw the polished plastic front cover was smudgy and all scuffed up (see attached image). Either the quality control was very poor or Amazon shipped a used and abused unit. Either way I am not gonna keep this or buy from brand again ... read further.Aside from the terrible appearance, the plastic material is inferior and performance was lacking. Worked fine on my laptop, but on the desktop, which was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, the dongle would lose connection whenever the computer is restarted, and I would need to unplug and reinsert the dongle in to reconnect. Not convenient! The backlight is okay, but the special character is not visible, to make matter worse it is dark blue writing printed on black background. I'd need to turn the room light up to the max out use my cell phone flashlight in order to see. Not ideal for night use, and it is a major inconvenience! The remote is good looking, and the features work well for some time. After a few months though, the microphone stopped working and the remote isn't as responsive anymore with my Nvidia Shield. Also, I'm not sure if it's a problem on the remote's side or the Shield, although I've never had this problem with other remotes before, but sometimes when the remote gets out of sleep mode, it'll switch to AirMouse mode, which is pretty annoying. The keyboard also doesn't work with all the apps, which could also be a Shield problem, but one that I haven't experienced with previous remotes. It could have been a great remote for the price, but it has too many problems to be recommended.Manual says should light up and complete whatever button is pressed.BUT most of the time have to press a button twice, once to wake it up and again for the command. Now, that you could get used to, however sometimes it responds to button presses the first time as well as lighting up so its NOT consistant in its operation.ON THE PLUS SIDE: Its nice to have a removable and replaceable battery, but that feature alone is NOT enough to make me want to stay with this one. Also it is WAY TOO sensitive to vibration.... after using it, if i lay it on top of say my aircleaner, the built in sensors pick up that tiny bit of vibration and it never goes into sleep mode..Only took me a few houirs to decide ... Sending backWorks pretty great so far! I'm not sure how to tell when the battery is fully charged but when they are charged it works great.. I doubt they would last two weeks like it says in the description.. keyboard I like too cause it makes click sounds when you press them and it's not hard to press works great.. the simplicity of it is great! I use it with my Nvidia Shield Tv..The remote has all the features needed, the IR programmable power button is great and easy to program, the unit feels well built. It would be nice if a more neutral back light color was the first selection instead of red, but it is still not a deal breaker. The battery is very weak, I have to plug it in before the end of the day, it should be at least double the capacity, perhaps there is an aftermarket battery to buy to replace it.
